Explosions, black smoke over Hostomel, dozens of enemy helicopters in the sky, no light and no communication – this is how the war began for Svitlana from Bucha. It was immediately clear to her: it was deadly to stay. On February 26, her family left, and the very next day, the russians entered the city. Svitlana learned about the horrors of the occupation from Lviv: strangers were walking through her house, her neighbour was killed, and her cosy town was turning into ruins. But her heart was rushing home. She returned immediately after the de-occupation to find her house looted, but it was still her home. Today, Svitlana holds on to the support of her family and her garden with flowers, believing that the worst is over and that there will definitely be peace and quiet in the future.
