Olena is a resident of Kyiv who hasn’t left the city since the beginning of the full-scale war. She remembers the silence of the devastated Kyiv and the special atmosphere of unity among those who remained: strangers helping each other, ready to defend their city even with their bare hands. The most terrifying moment for her was when the explosion occurred just a hundred metres from her home. For a moment, the sound resembled a cracked window pane, but when Olena looked back, she saw that the window had been blown out along with the frame. At that moment, she came to a profound realisation: death was very close. This was the impetus for her to live every day to the fullest, to appreciate every moment and to act despite her fear.
