Oleksandr Savka

"The road was a target, like at hunting"

On February 24, 2022, Oleksandr was not thinking about his fate. His wife and daughter were in Kherson. While the family was deciding what to do, the city was captured. He spent the following days trying to get his family out of Kherson, which was quickly turning into a trap that was closing. But thanks to the acquaintances, the wife and daughter managed to find their way to the controlled territories. Such a trip was already fraught with mortal danger at that time. The man has returned to Kherson several times and felt how dangerous life in the front-line city is. Oleksandr is the secretary of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine; he knows how difficult it is for artists to survive now - there is no money to cover the pavilions with film after the explosions had smashed out the windows.
