Alla Karpenko

“I will hold your hand forever”

Alla Karpenko is a successful IT professional and volunteer. During the full-scale war, she raised more than 30 million hryvnias to buy bulletproof vests and helmets to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. The girl dated paratrooper Yevhen Bazylevskyi, who had been serving in the 79th separate air assault brigade since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Yevhen used to go to Ukrainian flashpoint areas since 2015. The 27-year-old soldier’s heart stopped on December 13, 2022. He was killed by a shot fired from a tank.

To cope with the loss, Alla started keeping a public diary on social media, which resonated with many women who had also lost their loved ones. At the morgue, Alla took a very emotional photo and captioned it, “I will hold your hand forever, my Hero. Even if you are no longer with us.”
