Photographs of her house, torn in half by a missile, spread across all the news outlets — the tragedy of 17 June 2025 in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district became one of the most horrific. Svitlana survived thanks to the shelter that she and her neighbors had been setting up together back at the very beginning of the war. That night was endless: explosions every few minutes, smoke, fires, panic, in which at first it was impossible to grasp the scale of the catastrophe. When the smoke cleared, it became visible: the seventh entrance of the building had been completely destroyed down to the first floor. Svitlana’s apartment is now total devastation, and the building itself is in an emergency condition. But the woman does not allow herself despair: already in the morning after the russian attack she was clearing the rubble, and the next day she went to work. Because her strength lies in the determination to keep living and to rebuild everything, even if from scratch.
