In picturesque Vytachiv, where the Dnipro can be seen from the hills, there is a volunteer hub called “Vytachivski Sertsia.” All its members came here following the call of their hearts. The first days of the war became a trial for the community. When the front retreated from Kyiv region, people in Vytachiv understood: the struggle was only beginning. That was when several women — among them Liubov Demianenko — came to the village elder with the suggestion to create a volunteer hub. That is how the first wooden frames for nets appeared. Local men made them, and the women took up scissors and fabric. They decided that one structure would be for nets, and the other for ghillie suits for reconnaissance soldiers. Since that day, people in Vytachiv can no longer imagine their daily routine without scissors and the rustle of fabric strips.
They came up with the name together. “We call ourselves ‘Vytachivski Sertsia’ because all the girls truly feel everything with their hearts, sincerely,” Liubov Andriivna says. And it is really so: into every net they weave warmth, prayers, small notes with wishes for the soldiers. During the war, the village lost several of its defenders. “We fell to our knees before them, because it is simply impossible to bear this,” the woman recalls. Today, there are about twenty volunteers in the hub. They joke, share news, raise funds for materials. But most importantly — they do not stop. For them, the war is not only the front line. It is the daily work of “hearts” that cannot remain indifferent.
