The deputy headmistress of the school in the occupied village of Atmanay was taken by Russians from her home for interrogation. Nina Kyryk is sure that she was betrayed by one of her former colleagues. She recognised the handwriting of the denunciation. The Russians made many accusations against the teacher: from ‘undermining equipment’ to leading a local ‘guerrilla movement’. During the night interrogation, Nina heard moaning behind the wall. Men from the village were being beaten and interrogated there. The Russians psychologically abused her and several other women. Nina was miraculously released. She realised that she would not be so lucky again. So she left home.
