"We constantly feel that we are in gun sights"

Life seems to have stopped in our city. More than 800 homes were damaged, leaving about 6,000 residents, mostly retired people, homeless.

We constantly feel that we are in gun sights

I help my mother around the house. I look after my little sister and my paralyzed grandparents. While they were resting, I have to feed the chickens. My mother went to get humanitarian packages.

Locals sometimes starve. They have no money to take from — there are no jobs. Therefore, the humanitarian aid sent by the Rinat Akhmetov  Humanitarian Centre is the only way to survive. The whole city is unemployed.

We constantly feel that we are in gun sights. For example, yesterday a bullet hit the wall of our house. They aimed at the corners and the windows. We had to change the windows, because they had no glass at all.

In August, there was a lot of shooting at Dormition of the Mother of God. Mum ran out to herd the poultry into the barn. While she was there, an explosive bullet exploded under her feet and wounded her.

Armed hostilities erupted less than a kilometer away. We got used to shooting and learned to appreciate the world.
