Kateryna remembers the beginning of the full-scale war very clearly — it wasn’t the explosions that frightened her, but the ringing, unreal silence into which the city sank. Her husband, who in 2014 had been forced to flee the burning Donetsk, knew: you cannot hesitate. Thanks to his decisiveness, the family evacuated to western Ukraine, avoiding the worst events of the first months. Already in May they returned to Kyiv and dared to make an important decision: to have a child during the war. Motherhood in such conditions is a constant choice between fear and courage — it is night-time alarms, the search for safe places, and an invisible struggle for the child’s calm. But at the same time, it is also a source of strength, faith, and inspiration. Because when new life is beside you, you simply cannot allow yourself to give up.
