Denys is one of those who suffered during the massive shelling of Kyiv on the night of June 17, 2025. That night, the capital endured a combined attack: first russian Shaheds, then missiles. Denys stayed at home and admits he regrets not going to the shelter. Around four in the morning, a missile struck directly into his building — the seventh entrance was destroyed down to the foundation!
He lived nearby—in the sixth entrance. From the explosion, a window frame flew into his apartment, fragments cut his face, and next to him was his elderly mother—she was also wounded. Together, supporting each other, they made their way out of the building. Outside, cars were burning, and there were fragments and smoke all around. Their apartment was completely destroyed. Denys was left without a roof over his head, and he says he hopes for only one thing—for Ukraine’s victory and the end of the war. Only then, he says, will true optimism appear.
