Anastasiia, who is from the occupied Kherson Oblast, recalls how Russian planes flew so low over the rooftops that small children hid hysterically under their beds. They endured six months of occupation filled with explosions, constant fear, and the threat of Russian missiles and drones over their village. The school where Anastasiia's nephews studied was bombed, as was the local community centre. The family ultimately decided to leave when they faced the difficult choice between sending their children to a Russian school or risking losing their parental rights. “If we don’t send them to the Russian school, they will take away our parental rights,” she explained. Now, they live in Zhytomyr Oblast.
