On the first day of the full-scale invasion, 77-year-old Nataliia from Mariupol moved to a relative’s house, closer to the sea. At the time, it seemed that this place would be safer. But a few days later, a blast wave smashed all the windows in the house. Despite the incessant russian shelling and the cold, the elderly women did not dare to leave the dilapidated building, and only when the house caught fire for the second time did they have no choice – they had to evacuate through the territory of russia, as the invaders had blocked other routes. Fortunately, the women were able to leave russia for Poland and then return to Ukraine.
