The tragedy happened on 24 August 2015. Four children found a shell at the training ground near our village of Volodarske. They brought it to the yard and decided to disassemble it. It exploded.
Consequently, a four-year-old boy was killed. One boy lost both legs and an arm, and my sons Serhii and his older brother Sasha were seriously injured.
Sasha was running around, covered in blood. I didn't understand what was going on. I asked where his younger brother was. Sasha replied, "He's dying over there" Serhii was thrown into the yard by the blast wave. Shell-shocked, he ran to the door of the house. He had an open fracture.
Now Serhii wears a mask that hides the scars on his face. He has a test prosthesis instead of the left eye. He was able to get back on his feet only a month ago. He is trying to walk without crutches. In the early days, doctors gave a 20 percent chance that he would survive. Sasha's lip, tongue, and leg were torn to bits by fragments. He still can't speak properly because of the injuries.
