Halyna's family lived in a village in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region. Her daughter with a child came to live with them from Mariupol. When the fighting was going on around them, the family hid in the basement during the constant shelling. There was no electricity and food supplies were cut off. The village was completely blocked. The Ukrainian military helped with food, and on May 3, they helped the villagers evacuate by making a crossing. Later, Halyna found out that there was not a single intact house left in the village.
