“I climbed trees with theater binoculars: my husband and I were partisans for 5 months”

Kherson Regional Musical Drama Theater n.a. M. Kulish survived 8.5 months of occupation. On May 29, 2022, the occupying authorities appointed a “new” director, “renamed” the theater to the “Russian Academic Theater,” and began “recruitment” of workers...

Nataliia Fokina was a costume designer for that theater, and her husband was a lighting designer. Spouses were visited 4 times with machine guns by people with a “business proposal.” In order not to cooperate with the new leadership, Nataliia and her husband were hiding. They could not leave the city because there was no one to leave elderly grandmothers and parents to.

The couple managed to resist all the months of the occupation, remain free and also work as partisans. The girl who coordinated the partisan activities of the spouses is in captivity. She was taken straight from her bed in August 2022.
