Liliia Zabrotska is one of the activists of a powerful volunteer community in the village of Dovbysh, Zhytomyr region. Liliia has been volunteering since 2014. It all started when the first boys from the village went to the front. All the community’s efforts are aimed at supporting the army. One of the projects closest to her heart is helping the Ivan Bohun Brigade.
One of Liliia’s cousins was among those killed in the war. Another is defending the country. There are 36 names of the fallen defenders on the community’s memorial plaque. Liliia remembers everyone. “The worst thing is when they are so young and they are looking from photographs,” she says.
Liliia has a dream – a very simple one. She wants her children and grandchildren to return from Poland to Ukraine. That there would be no sirens, no hits, no farewells. For everyone to live in dignity. Because she believes: “The Lord God alone can end this war in one minute.” But for now, she is holding the line here, in the rear, which is no less important than the front.
