Halyna is a laboratory doctor at the Regional Psychiatric and Narcological Medical Association. February 24 was supposed to be a pleasant day marking the start of her vacation, but at half past four in the morning, the woman was awakened by explosions — the oil depot was on fire. At the time when almost all the neighbors left the street, Halyna and her husband, no matter what, decided to stay: “To abandon what is ours is a sin, even if a Russian tank stands by the fence, this is our land, our house, our apple tree, and our air.” Halyna recalls how the war united the townspeople and revealed the greatness of the human soul — strangers helped each other. The desire to help inspires Halyna even today, and as long as it lives, hope and faith in Ukraine’s victory remain alive.
