“I lost my house. It caught fire when it was hit by a shell”

Mariia’s apartment in Lyman burned down during the shelling. A shell hit the house. The girl’s father and a neighbor tried to put out the fire. It was in vain! Her father was injured, the girl says. Mariia and her mother were lucky to leave the city before the shelling started. When they returned to Lyman, they settled in an old house provided by their friends.

After what she has gone through, Masha is recovering at the Emerald City Social Rehabilitation Center in the west of the country. Almost all the children that receive treatment at this center have come from the front-line cities of Donbas.  The center itself was relocated from Sviatohirsk when the invasion began. For the children, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the New Year’s holidays without missiles exploding overhead.
