At the beginning of the invasion, Maryna's older children, who serve in the National Guard, gave her a grandson and stood up to defend the country. Her younger children were caught up in the full-scale war in Mariupol, near the Azovstal plant. In March 2022, desperate Maryna went there to get them. She got to the city centre, found herself in the middle of the war, but missed her children, who escaped earlier.Â
On her way back, Maryna took several families to Zaporizhzhia region. She could not forget what she saw in Mariupol. The very next day, she asked her colleagues at the primary healthcare centre to help her.Â
So the woman started travelling to the war zone with "humanitarian aid" and medicines; she took patients from the occupied territory. The stories of the people she rescued are still heartbreaking. In her story, Maryna tells the world about herself and them.
