Vira Karpenko went to the front line to save her wounded nephew. She found him and saved several other lives along the way. She was wounded when she tried to evacuate.

For Vira, the war began when she was in her native Huliaipole. She survived several missile attacks and almost died during one of them. The decision was firm: she had to do something. She had to help others!

As part of a team of volunteers organized by a church that Vira used to attend, she started delivering humanitarian aid to front-line areas. At first, they went to Mariupol, and Bakhmut was next. Vira’s sister told her that her nephew was wounded there. She found the boy! Volunteers were able to pick up several other wounded servicemen along with her nephew. Unfortunately, they lost their way and ended up in an area controlled by Russian troops.
