From the very beginning of the war, Oksana’s biggest fear was her son’s choice, which he made back in 2021, to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Despite his young age – 18 years old – Ruslan was unwavering: he dreamed of driving the enemy out of his native land. He defended Chernihiv and Sumy regions, travelled all over Donbas, and gave his life in Kursk region on October 10, 2024. Ruslan Holubenko, a Hero of Ukraine who was posthumously awarded the Order for Courage, III class, will always remain her cheerful boy to his mother. He still comes to her in her dreams – smiling, strong, filling mothers’ heart with a dream – to come to her son’s grave on the day of Ukraine’s victory to say: “You did it!”.
