15-year-old Vanya's mother died three years ago. He was the fourth foster child in our family. Vanya is my nephew, his mother asked us to pick him up before she died. He misses her, but tries to get used to the new conditions.

We have no work in the village, my husband works part-time where he can. Money, of course, is not enough. We deprive ourselves of everything in order to give something to our children.

He goes to boarding school five days a week. We wanted to take him to a regular school, but he said he was better off there. After graduation, Vanya wants to become a bricklayer.

His boarding school is 20 kilometers from Popasna, where one can constantly hear shelling bursts. On weekends, he comes to us in Pokrovske.
