“I spent almost a year in occupation”

Yaroslav Vershyna, a 12-year-old boy from Kherson, witnessed the occupation of his city by russian invaders. He remembers the moment when it all began: I wake up and my mum shouts to me: “War!”.

These words were the beginning of a new reality. Russian armoured personnel carriers and tanks flooded Kherson. Yaroslav stayed in the occupation for almost a year and witnessed the days when Ukrainian heroes liberated the city from the invaders. He shared his memories during his holiday under the “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Peaceful Rest for Children of Ukraine”.
