“A shell hit our parents’ house. And Sasha, my niece, is no more. What if this is a mistake?”

On 21 March, airstrikes on the so-called “Pentagon” micro-district in Mariupol began. The next day, Anna and her family decided to leave the city. Her husband went to his parents, but they refused to leave flat out. Their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter remained with them, and on 1 April, a tank aimed straight at the bedroom of five-year-old Oleksandryna [Sasha]. The girl died instantly, and a few hours later, Grad MLRS rockets killed her dad. Her mum was badly wounded.
