Mariia Kuznetsova has been waiting for her husband, a prisoner of war who defended Mariupol, for three years now. Her story is a testament to her strength of spirit, endurance and boundless love for her family in times of war. His son Davyd saw his father for the last time when he was just a year old. But not a day goes by when the son does not remember his father.

Mariia tells the terrifying details of survival in the blockaded Mariupol. She and her sister, with a baby in their arms, almost froze to death in the basement. The cold and hunger caused the milk to disappear, and there was nothing left to feed the children. They had to leave the besieged city under russian shelling. Mariia talks about her terrible losses. Her grandfather, Borys Shylko, was killed in Mariupol. His injury resulted in the amputation of his leg, and unfortunately, his heart did not survive the surgery. She remembers her neighbours, elderly people who also became victims of the war.

Now Mariia is fighting for her son’s health and her husband’s freedom.   The interview with Mariia Kuznetsova is an important testimony to life in war, to love, hope and the resilience of the human spirit.
