After being wounded, “assault soldier” Yevhenii Shvab spent 40 days in intensive care and fell into a coma three times. Doctors performed one of the most complex operations – they completely removed his hip joint. Despite this, Yevhen is the captain of the Lviv para-hockey team, a participant in Berlin Fashion Week and a tactical medicine instructor.

Due to the high amputation, he required complex prosthetics. FC Shakhtar, in collaboration with “Heart of Azovstal”, provided the veteran with a state-of-the-art prosthesis. This enabled the defender to return to an active life.

Yevhen has been living with phantom pain for several years. He says it doesn’t go away – you simply learn to cope with it over time.

The journey from intensive care to stepping onto the ice was indeed extremely difficult. However, Yevhen did not stray from his goal: to promote veterans’ sport across the country. To help others.

Yevhen’s story is about the cost of war and the power of returning to life. And future generations must know it.
