"Son cannot forget the days and nights spent in the basement"

Our house is literally bursting at the seams, and I live in it with two children. We're all in the same room. The walls are crumbling, the windows are old – no one has lived in this house for a long time, no one looked after it, it was not heated.

I came to Kalchik from Telmanoe District when relentless attacks began. I saved the children. The eldest son Maksym still can't forget the days and nights spent in the basement. It seems quiet here, but when the car passes, he is afraid and thinks that it is shooting again.

I have no job in my new place, it is almost impossible to find one in the village, and there is no one to leave my children to. I solve all the problems myself.

There is no water, coal or wood in the house, although the heating is only stove. Every day I collect dry twigs at the edge of the village. We have only social benefits and child care payments from our income.
