Viktoriia, from Mariupol, remembers well those first days when the world changed. On February 24, she woke up to a strange roar – at the time, she did not believe it had really started. But very quickly, Mariupol turned into a trap. Electricity, gas, water – everything disappeared. There was no connection, and every day seemed like an eternity. Viktoriia and her neighbours would go out into the yard and cook borsch on the fire in the open air. Not just for herself, but for everyone else. In the smoke and silence that the explosions broke, people supported each other. The shelling was getting closer. First, about a block away, then behind the house. And then a shell hit their yard. Her apartment block is gone. No apartment, no belongings, no normal life. Only memories remained.
