We don't have a building in the city that hasn't been damaged by the fighting. The city is dilapidated. Windows in the still-standing houses have been broken. The fighting took place both in the city and in the surrounding areas. All those who managed to leave did it. Only pensioners remained here.
You could hardly see anyone on the streets two months ago. Only now people are coming out of basements and cellars.
We lived in a three-story building in the center of Vuhlehirsk. Our housing was completely destroyed on the first day of the attacks. It is a real miracle they survived. My son-in-law had a house after his parents died. So we moved there. Still, we couldn't hide from the war. A shell hit our house.
We are restoring the house on our own, so we have to stay in the summer kitchen.
I still remember the day when they started bombing – August 12. A neighbor was killed. We managed to survive, because we were in the basement.
