Maryna Usypenko, a lawyer from Zaporizhzhia, almost died during the russian shelling of the city by KABs on December 6, 2024. The explosion, which occurred just a few dozen metres away, deafened and shocked her. The girl did not immediately realise she was injured. She tried to escape the epicentre of the shelling by car. She started to lose consciousness while driving.

In hospital, she was diagnosed with a severe shrapnel wound to her legs. Her treatment was difficult. But later Maryna got back on her feet. Such an injury requires a course of physical rehabilitation. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helped the girl with her recovery. Full rehabilitation will take at least another six months, Maryna says. It is hard, but with each step she is getting closer to her goal of finally putting on a dress or skirt and driving a car without pain.
