‘I am tired of crying. We will start a new life from now’

It used to be beautiful and comfortable here. We all lived in friendship and everyone knew each other. Even now, everyone keeps in touch. All of us would like to live in one village as one big family.

‘I am tired of crying. We will start a new life from now’

We were all born here. Our grandmother lived here and we lived with our grandmother since childhood. Then we lived some time in Donetsk and came back again. And we continued to live in Peski, got married and our children were born there.

My mother worked in a shop here. I first worked on a state farm. I studied as school here. We went to the dances altogether and it was always friendly here. And now everyone is scattered to all the corners of the world. I would like to meet everyone again and to live together in one village.

Private houses area, the village council, the shop and the café used to be here, and the second shop further on there. We lived here before the war. There was our own apartment, our parents’, our brother’s, and our children’s. Since 18 July 2014, since we left, we only came once then to take some things with us.

Everything used to be different in Peski and now everything is destroyed and nothing is left.

We lived in friendship, made savings, and collected money. We had a carpet on the wall, a plasma TV, a set of furniture, a sofa, a fridge and a freezer and I only managed to take the washing machine with me.

‘I am tired of crying. We will start a new life from now’

I am tired of crying. We will start a new life from now. We will be making savings and collecting money for something new. I would like to return here, of course, to live here, but there is nowhere to return.

I don’t know how to live on, what is to be done? So far, we live in Dymytriv and it remains to be seen what will be in future. The children go to the kindergarten and we go to work, little by little. I help at the Humanitarian Center. We would like to have our own housing. I wish the war ended and there was peace. So that we all could work and our life could go the way it used to go before.
