The full-scale war caught Yana in Kyiv — she did not believe it could really happen until the very last moment. Her relatives in Sumy region found themselves under occupation, her friends — in Hostomel, and the first days of the war passed in constant fear for them. All this time Yana stayed in the capital, learning to live in a new reality — until the night of 28 September 2025 changed everything. That night she was with her family in Sumy region, while in her apartment in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka her sister was staying with a baby. A missile hit their residential complex, destroying an entire block and taking more than one life. Fortunately, Yana’s loved ones survived, and now the worst is behind them. The main thing now is to act and to live, despite everything, without losing hope.
