On 8 April 2022, the Kramatorsk railway station became the site of a tragedy that shocked the world. Among the dozens wounded was 11-year-old Yana Stepanenko. Because of the missile strike, the girl lost both legs; her mother was also severely injured. What followed were evacuation, complex surgeries, prosthetics, and many months of pain and rehabilitation — a path that could break anyone, but not Yana. Instead of stopping, she began to run. Literally. To run marathons, take part in competitions, and inspire thousands with her example. The story of Yana Stepanenko is a story of strength and an unbreakable spirit.
One of the key forms of support her family received was a new apartment provided through a charitable initiative by Rinat Akhmetov. For Yana and her mother, it is not just housing, but a safe space where they can plan their future and continue their recovery.
