“The Occupation of Melitopol Took Place in Three Days.  We Were Left Face to Face With the Enemy.  but We Did Not Give Up”

Hanna But is a teacher with a big heart and an iron will.  In 2021, she was recognized as the best teacher of civic education in Ukraine by the Global Teacher Prize. The very next day, she received the title of Honoured Education Worker of Ukraine and the Order of Merit for the Zaporizhzhia Region. Before the full-scale war, Hanna lived and worked in Melitopol.  When the city was occupied in three days, she refused to accept it.  She became one of the organizers of peaceful protests.  Because of her stance, she faced threats, even from the parents of her students.
