71-year-old Nataliia knows well what life in captivity is like. She stayed in Kherson after the arrival of russian troops, worked in local government and every day passed by the occupiers’ checkpoint wearing a yellow and blue jacket as a sign of resistance to the occupation. When she finally decided to leave, she passed 38 enemy checkpoints on her way to freedom. Now Nataliia lives in Kyiv, helps other IDPs at the Kherson Community Development Foundation “Zakhyst” and dreams of the day when she will see her hometown again – peaceful and safe.
