Nadiia Astanina, after the outbreak of hostilities in the Donbas in 2014, welcomed migrants from the front-line settlements of Donbas. Then, in her native Mariupol, she worked in a city social hostel. People who were forced to flee the war were called “new Mariupol residents” and were helped to start life in a new place.
After the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the residents of the hostel were again forced to flee the city being destroyed by missiles and air bombs. Nadiia Astanina remained in Mariupol even during the massive shelling and left hell with difficulty. The story of this is in the Museum.
Now she is a displaced person herself – she lives in Dnipro. And she provides asylum to her co-residents from Mariupol. Acting director of the Mariupol social hostel in Dnipro, which was opened on the basis of the “I am Mariupol” center. How they created comfort for the homeless residents of Mariupol, she told the Museum.
