Hanna Zakharova is the mother of high school student Maksym Makarenko from Kharkiv. He is one of the winners of the All-Ukrainian essay contest ‘1000 Days of War. My Way’. Hanna's parents were captured in the first days of the invasion. They left Kharkiv because of the shelling. Maksym's essay is autobiographical. Hanna notes that the topic resonated with high school students and their parents. This is confirmed by the results of the competition: in 2024, more than 4,000 essays were received!  The expert council selected the most talented ones. The essay competition has been organised by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the State Scientific Institution ‘Institute for the Modernisation of Education Content’ for several years.
