Marta Fedina

"We travelled for 5 days, and for those 5 days I cried like a beluga whale..."

Kharkiv resident Marta Fedina, Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine in synchronised swimming, two-time bronze medallist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is the first Ukrainian Olympic champion in this sport, world and European champion.

She met the beginning of the full-scale war in Kharkiv. From the very first days, explosions were heard, and people left the city en masse. Marta had no plans to evacuate, but she had to leave the country to prepare for the World Cup.

Marta remembers the moment of parting with her parents as the hardest because they were still in danger. Despite the emotional stress and constant worry about her family and friends, the athlete brought back three silvers and two golds from Budapest. She says she was very motivated to make sure that the Ukrainian anthem was heard around the world every time.
