Olena Bukovelo

" We were under occupation, like in a gas chamber"

Olena Bukovelo did not have time to leave before the occupation of Kherson. She is raising four children alone, one of them with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

«My child is unable to walk on his own due to his illness. He moves only in a wheelchair. We do not have our own car. We found ourselves in a hopeless situation. For five months we survived the occupation, practically without the necessary medicines and diapers," says Olena.

The woman managed to find transport and leave through Vasylivka. There she had to wait for her turn for 5 days. After going through inhumane conditions, Olena and her family finally found themselves on the territory controlled by Ukraine.
