In early 2024, Maria Burmaka's younger brother died of a heart attack. Sviatoslav Burmaka was defending Ukraine, was wounded, contused and treated in a military hospital. Six months after the terrible news, the singer told us how she was experiencing the loss of her loved one because of the war.

"I didn't accept it; I can't accept it," the artist admitted in an interview with Oleksiy Sukhanov. - "My brother was my best friend. We have an age difference of 10 years, I am older than him, and I remember how he was born, how he grew up, how he gave my dolls to his friend when he was 4 years old." According to the singer, Sviatoslav volunteered to go to the front immediately after the start of the full-scale invasion. At the time, his wife was expecting a child. For Maria Burmaka, the death of her military brother is an irreparable loss.

"When they say that heroes do not die, you... when you come across a thought, and all my friends see it when we are travelling somewhere, I say: "Here we were with Slava". Life will never be the same because he could always help me, and I helped him," she said.

The artist admitted that she had written a song dedicated to Sviatoslav called "To My Brother", but she would not be able to perform it now. But she hopes that someday she will sing a composition with heartbreaking lines about her loved one.

"I don't want to cry; it's in the song, too, because you have to understand that this is how it is. Although it hurts unbearably."
