“Mariia used to come to our library, a bright child. She died with her parents”

Marichka Makoviy from Novohrodivka died with her parents in November 2023. The girl was 8 years old. The russian army hit the residential building where the family lived. Rescuers searched for them under the rubble for several days. In total, five people died.
Mariia was an active child and loved books. Librarian Iryna Stepanenko recalls how the mining town survived this terrible tragedy.
