“People hopped in their cars. Women asked us, “Take at least the children”

Katia, Olena’s sister, attended the circus school and practised archery. She went to the art school too. Iryna, their mother, worked in a hospital. She loved her children. On 6 March, Olena and her family were leaving home. Iryna and Katia came over to say goodbye to them.

- Maybe you will go with us?

- No, we are going to stay here.

On 15 March, Katia and Iryna died. An artillery shell hit directly, right into the yard. Iryna’s head was torn off. Katia’s body was lying there without a single scratch. Their graves are still being searched for.
