When she was only 3 years old, my daughter Masha survived the terrible shelling of Mariupol in January 2015. We went for a walk that day. Suddenly we heard the explosions. One shell landed not far from us. We got scared and ran home. When we reached home, I saw that my daughter was injured – there was a shell fragment in her hand.
We were taken to the hospital. The injury was so serious that doctors had to piece Masha's right hand together. I was so shocked that I couldn't even figure out what was happening… Doctors were able to save the daughter's hand. A deep scar is the only reminder of the injury.
Supported by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, rehabilitation therapists helped with the hand recovery process. Masha started school and even started doing wushu!
