Due to intense shelling that took place in August 2015, almost all the young people left Sartana. Only old people remained. At that time, 11 civilians were killed, and 26 people were wounded.
People were left alone with their misfortunes. People get small pensions. They have no idea how to heat houses in winter.
I live with my husband, who can hardly walk and can't see very well. We barely managed to survive the shelling. We woke up from a rattling sound. When I and Husband reached the bathroom, all the windows had been shattered, and the door was broken by a blast wave. The entire street was destroyed. If we went outside, we would be crushed down by debris.
Fellow villagers helped us to repair our house. We have been on our own for more than a year. The children won't come to visit us. There are thousands of such destitute old people like us.
