"Thank you, but I will stay in Kharkiv until we win this war", - Yulia, a volunteer, replied to her friend in Telegram.
This message turned out to be her last one. A 21-year-old Yulia Zdanovska was killed with a Russian shell in the center of Kharkiv. It happened on March 3.
Yulia was a gifted mathematician. When she was studying at school, she already participated in academic competitions.
"You were torn between Math and computer science. You couldn't decide what you liked better. Maybe that's why you sometimes took second places in competitions", - Yulia's mother shared in her social media.
Yulia had many victories. In 2017 she was in a team representing Ukraine at the European mathematical cup. Then Ukranians took silver. They leapfrogged 44 teams including Russian.
After obtaining a bachelor's degree from the National University of Kyiv, Yulia joined the "Teach for Ukraine" program. The last 6 months of her life she spent teaching computer science in a school in Dnipropetrovsk region. She dreamt that more children could "get a buzz out of Math".
To commemorate Yulia the Massachusetts Institute of Technology launched a project "Yulia's Dream". It's a research program in Math for gifted school-goers from Ukraine, free of charge.
Rest in peace!
