On March 5, Oleksandr Kysliuk was shot dead in Bucha. He knew six languages, taught Old Church Slavonic in higher educational institutions and some schools in Kyiv, and translated a lot.
Among his works are the translations of Aristotle’s Politics and Tacitus’s Annals into Ukrainian, a complete Old Church Slavonic dictionary, and dozens of other works.
He was killed in his own house, shot by the occupiers.
“A genius polyglot (it is hard to say precisely how many languages he knew - both classic and modern ones) and a man of complicated destiny. His “This is surely aorist!” with the intonation which sounded as if he was talking about a gift of a diamond - is something I will remember all my life. Rest in peace, Oleksandr Ivanovych, we will cherish your memory; Heavenly Kingdom awaits you!” — wrote Bishop Yevstratiy, the head of Chernihiv bishopric of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, about his teacher of the Greek language.
