Khrystyna Alimpiieva was surviving in Mariupol near the maternity hospital. That terrible airstrike on March 9 will stay in her memory forever. The blast wave blew out all the windows in the apartment. The family moved to the basement, where her little son fell seriously ill. There was almost no chance of saving him.
"In the basement, my son caught a rotavirus infection. There was no medicine, the water was almost gone. He was fading away slowly, and I was almost certain he wouldn’t be able to survive in such conditions. For my birthday, a neighbor gave me a bottle of water. Through the terrifying shelling, we managed to reach another bomb shelter. There, a doctor provided help to my son. He survived, and it’s a real miracle," Khrystyna recalls through tears.
