Oleksandra Tarnovska

“That’s it. They came for me. They needed media persons”

Oleksandra Tarnovska is a People’s Artist of Ukraine, an actress and the head of the Mykola Kulish Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater. On February 24, she woke up to explosions. The Russians were shelling Antonivskyi Bridge. After Russia invaded Ukraine, Oleksandra found herself in occupied Kherson. She did not leave the city until its liberation and lived in occupation for 260 days. All that time, the People’s Artist of Ukraine knitted socks for the Ukrainian military, waited for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and hid the Ukrainian flag at home.
