The village of Lukashivka, 20 kilometres from Chernihiv, could have become an important point for the Russian advance on Kyiv. However, on March 9, 2022, a heavy seven-hour battle with the occupiers took place here. The defenders of Lukashivka drew the Russian forces back and bought time for the defenders of Chernihiv. Later, this helped to avoid the encirclement of the regional centre.

Lukashivka was under occupation for three weeks. In addition to houses, the ancient Ascension Church, which was about 200 years old, was destroyed. The Russians set up their headquarters and an ammunition depot there. Local farmer Hryhorii TKACHENKO, whose farm was damaged during the occupation, built a new church near the dilapidated church. For the past two years, the farmer has been rebuilding his farm and helping the village to recover. Hryhorii is also collecting all the photos and videos from that period to preserve this history of the war.
