Alina Tykhonenko

“Every night when I go to bed, I worry about waking up the next morning”

In November 2023, the mining town of Selydove, where Alina Tykhonenko lives, was heavily attacked by Russian artillery. And it was not a single attack.

They targeted the hospital, the mine, and houses. More than a dozen people were killed and wounded. The worst shelling happens at night, and Alina sounds distressed. The destructive power of the strikes is such that the four-wall rule will not save us.

The interview with Alina was recorded at the Emerald City Social Rehabilitation Center. Alina and her twin sister, Karina, came here to rest. They are happy to attend classes here. They missed live communication! After all, only distance learning is available to children in the frontline Donbas. The sisters will also celebrate New Year’s holidays at the center. They make only one wish: peace.
